Several years ago I was introduced to Megan Gilmore’s blog, Detoxinista, by my sister, Kimber. So it seemed appropriate that we tackle as many recipes from her new cookbook, Everyday Detox, for this review as a team! It’s always more fun to share food together, isn’t it? Even if we are hundreds of miles apart.
Megan truly is on a mission to make healthy eating enjoyable, easy, and accessible, which is evident through these 100 whole food recipes. Packed with flavor, while low on time and stress, she’s certainly hit the mark! While we may different in some areas of our nutritional philosophy, I can most certainly appreciate and applaud anyone focused on fueling our bodies with unprocessed, whole foods.
Between the two of us, Kimber and I tackled (and savored every bite!) of 19 recipes, so I am confident you can count on our recommendation. Our families devoured these fabulous bites with us:

I asked for Kimber’s thoughts and she beamed with the following review:
“The recipes were simple to put together. They were uncomplicated and didn’t use a crazy amount of ingredients, yet were full of flavor. My family and I enjoyed that the recipes for comfort foods were filling, warming, and hearty, without being heavy. And we enjoyed that all of the recipes were fresh yet satisfying, which made everyone at the table happy. As the cook, I was thankful for the suggestions provided at the bottom of the recipes with ideas for substitutions or additions, which helped to keep the recipes stress-free and adaptable. Also, with crazy, inconsistent schedules, I love to prep meals ahead, which I found very easy to do with these recipes. I often make breakfast the night before, and make dinner during the kids’ nap times, before my husband and I head to work for the evening, and I was able to pull this off and have wonderful meals waiting for us right when we needed them. I also feel confident that these recipes would be crowd pleasers; my husband, myself, my 3 year old and 1 year old all enjoyed them, despite our varying food preferences. Megan also takes into account a variety of dietary needs, whether vegan, paleo, grain free, or gluten free.
The Detoxinista is very talented at taking classic ideas and putting a spin on them, making them healthier, tastier, and easier. Coconut flour pancakes and muffins are nothing new in our household, but never before have I had ones so fluffy and moist! Spaghetti squash frequents our dinner table, but the Cheesy Jalapeño Casserole made it irresistible! She took so many dishes I love and made them better for me in so many ways. At the same time, this cookbook was so welcome to break me out of a breakfast and dinner rut I was facing. I would have never thought up Mexican Butternut Pilaf, but I’m so thankful Megan did for me!
I can highly recommend this book, especially for those who want to serve healthy meals that are simple and will make everyone happy (isn’t that all of us?!).”
I couldn’t have said it better myself!!! When my husband picked up Everyday Detox and started book marking nearly every page I knew it was a winner!
